"Tick" sound when advancing film

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Hello,

I just purchased a new M6TTL. When I advance the film, I hear a distinct "tick" from the frame counter. This doesn't happen after frame 38, when the counter stops advancing. This happens with or without film.

Is this normal? The photos aren't affected, it is just a bit irritating. I don't remember hearing a tick when I played with the display model in the store. My serial number is 2550xxx. Maybe this is a new phenomenon?

Thanks for your help,

It is normal; my camera (2472xxx) makes a very subtle click as well. It is a mechanical camera, it is going to make some noise. Please go to a camera store and try out a Beesa R or any inexpensive SLR and then you will know what noisy is. One problem with using an M camera is that it is so quiet we get very sensitive to any little noise. I find it very difficult to use an SLR now as all that clunking and clanking leaves me shaken and wanting to sit down and take a little rest :-). It is the reactions of the people you are photographing that will let you know just how quiet an M camera is.

Cheers
