but is no one getting wound up about the Makems game? After feeling we'd win every game of the season so far, I have to say, I am petrified. Anyone else getting nervous?

Certainly not nervous - as long as it's football and not water polo, we'll be OK. Last time we played them we outclassed the b@st@rds. They were lucky they were at home and that they had a bent ref.

Im thoroughly looking forward to it , to be honest im more worried about how the road and rail network will be sorted by then .. the football is not a worry , i can see 3/4 - 0 : - ))

They'll come and play the type of football that we aren't very good at facing. Packing the midfield with scufflers and we have no wingers to beat them round the back.

Having said that if we score an early goal we should be able to draw them out a bit an hopefully play them off the park.

Can you believe somebody allowing himself to be talked into a weekend away when we're playing the makkems, and agreeing without checking the fixture list first ?

Anybody who comes back with 'Knowing you, yes', is off my xmas card list.

Would any of you good ladies be convinced by 'I'll just drive home and make sure the cat's alright' ? I mean, it's only 80 miles, well, 160 if you count the drive back after I've checked on the cat. And watered the hoose plants. Howway, what's wrong with that ?

Sting - last weekend I took the precaution of going up on the Friday evening and, apart from the delays and bus from York, it was OK.

Is anybody getting wound up about the Sunderland game? Sitting here in Sydney thinking that the last time I saw Newcastle play at St.James was 14 March 1964,the day before I left England,we beat Sunderland 1-0,Ron McGarry scored the goal and Dave Hollins saved a penalty(what a memory, haven't forgotten the rain either, standing there like a drowned rat) and that next week I'll be back there again, yes I'm starting to get a bit wound up,so if you see or maybe hear two Geordie blokes with Aussie accents looking for cold beer in the Strawberry on Friday night, please say hello 'cos we've been talking about doing this for the last 25years and finally thanks to my good mate in Hong Kong-Alan of Fifties fan fame and his dear wife Vals tickets we'll be there in the flesh.

>>>>(what a memory,haven't forgotten the rain either

I recall that weekend in '64 as well Terry. I missed the game sadly. There was a hoax announcement that the game was cancelled due to the rain (read out on the BBC as well) so I stayed at home, only learning of the victory later. From memory the crowd was a modest 29k when 50k plus would have been expected.

Ron McGarry. A character if ever there was one. Have goals will travel. Aaah - memories...
