Will DAT file play on a VCD/DVD standalone player

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

My standalone DVD player plays VCD cdr with no problem. But I recently purchase another VCD cdr and played it on my DVD player and it wont work. I put it on my pc and it works fine, I noticed the files are in .dat format. Will Standalone VCD/DVD players play VCDs recorded on .dat format? Or does the .dat format have to be converted to .mpeg format to be played on a VCD/DVD player? Please help.

You should do a bit of reading here and on www.vcdhelp.com as this question has been answered hundreds of times already.

A DVD player that can play VCD's cannot necessarily play HOMEMADE VCD's. It has to be capable of reading CDR or CD-RW disc's! Many cannot!

I should either have had more coffee b4 posting my last post... or less!

Are you saying that your DVD player WILL PLAY home burned CD-R's??? As far as I know, all VCD's have mpegs with .dat extension instead of .mpg. So that shoulden't be a problem. The only question is Can your DVD player play CD-R's?????

Well, maybe you should again measure your coffe intake before the 2nd post, leebo!

Vesee said in 1st sentence that it plays cdr no problem. I guess the brand of the cdr matters, or rather the colour/reflectiveness?

So, not all brands of cdr works in your player. And yes, all VCDs are in .DAT format. Why not have a look at those disc that can be played?
