What a way to go!! ( non-footy)

2 guys swimming at the local Cottesloe beach this morning were attacked by a 4 metre white pointer shark.

One man had his leg bitten off and died on the in the arms of his mate who only survived by kicking his way out of the sharks jaws.

Pretty scary stuff as the attack happened in waist deep water and this is the same beach as we (did) take the kids to!!

3 yr ago 2 blokes had a huge bite taken out of their surf ski on the same beach.

Just seen television shots of the shark just of the beach and it's a bit of a monster!!! The debate now is wether to kill it or let it go as it's a protected species. As far as I'm concerned your entering it's domain so you take your chance.

Fancy a swim Gus?

Could throw a few Mackems in and poison it!

There was a crocodile warning for a beach North of Cairns when I was in Oz. Still went for a paddle there, 'cos I'm dead hard, like.

Oh! Don`t kill it! I mean it is terrible that someone was killed, but I agree, the sea`s the shark`s domain. Don`t they have those shark curtains along that stretch of beach? Or don`t they really work?(:o)

I do wonder why Australia seems to be THE place to go just now! I think I`d be a nervous wreck! Never mind the sharks and crocodiles, what about eight foot earthworms and spiders that bite yer bum when you`re having a widdle!!!!

Bobby - were you drunk?(;o)

Mob of Softies, no disrespect to THE Softie of course!

If I had caught that I would have thrown it back and waited for its bigger brother!!

Guess where Mrs gus, the gussette and I went for afternoon tea yesterday?

Yep the cafe where all the photos were taken from. Sat on the balcony looking at the very spot the attack happened, albeit 12 hours earlier!

So you didn't fancy going for a paddle then Gus?

Talking to anyone to get your posting up eh Gav?

I would have gone for a plodge, however Mrs gus and I are off for our hols on Sunday.

I am saving my once a year swim for when we hit the beach in Busselton. With the whales now moving north of Perth it will be safe for me to go in the water "down south"

Eight foot earthworms?? ew! Never saw those when I was down under. Tons of kangaroos, wallabies, tropical birds, some bizarre possum-type creature in a Sydney park that we didn't get close enough to for an id, and a wild koala(after about an hour tip-toeing around Magnetic Island...I was very determined :-) ). Also saw a shark swimming very close to shore while walking along the beach on Fraser Island. We had been warned not to go in the water....and we saw why!! But then I'm of the generation scared out of the water when Jaws came out so it doesn't take much to keep me out. ;-)

I wrote in jest earlier :-

I learn on the news this evening that a SEAL has been spotted in Maltby, Yorkshire, which is apparently 25 miles "inland" whatever that might mean now.

I'm pleased SJP is on high ground.

I'm actually working with a bunch of sharks right now - and I'm not talking about my team mates. I'm sure PeteT will understand.

'Shark curtains', Galaxy? That sounds like a euphemism. Dunno what for, though. ;@)

Isn't a euphemism a sort of french horn that Jimmy Edwards used to play?
