How do I work this thing

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I am fed up with trying to play VCD's I recently bought in Hong Kong on my laptop. No matter what I do, it will not play it. Do I need special software? My laptop has a DVD player for God's sake. Why won't it just bloody work? The VCD is Scarface as well, which doesn't make it easier knowing it is there and i CAN'T WATCH IT

It may be that you need a vcd player software on your pc I use Powervcd and can watch vcd's on my PC just using my cdrom drive. Some of these vcd player programs are free so worth giving it a try!

Try finding the .dat file in whatever directory it appears, and drop it on top of Media Player (I assume you are using Windows 95 or newer). That usually works for me. You can than right-click on Media Player to go full screen if you like.

there is some file that needs to be on your system (windows\system dir) to read a vcd. u can get it from www.adaptec.com i think its named scsihlp.vxd or something similar.
