This is the story as per report on Soccernet. Don't know how true it is, but if there are any legs on it, they will also have to buy Quinn as well as the munchkin rarely scores without him.

Munchkin to Leed

Anyone know how reliable Soccernet is.....are they good or on a par with teamtalk bollox

-- Anonymous, November 04, 2000

More interestingly...has anyone ventured over to RTG to see if they're going nuts at the idea. Heheheh

-- Anonymous, November 04, 2000

I have and they are treating it like the treat everyting else......they talk about it and then decry the original bearer af the news as being either stupid or in their words a Mag Twat......they are such nice and highly letterate people are they not!

-- Anonymous, November 04, 2000

or even litterate......stupid keyboard, spills everything wrong.

Interesting story, but can't see where he'd fit in - full-back maybe?
Mark Viduka was terrific against Liverpool today, scoring four goals. What an excellent player he is - terrific balance and fast feet for a big guy.

-- Anonymous, November 04, 2000

Viduka is doing great, I didn't see the match but wished I had. Any way as for Leeds, How long is Bridges out for, Question, what's up with Kewell and why don't they use Huckerby?

-- Anonymous, November 04, 2000

I believe Bridges, and possibly Kewell also, are out for the season.
Huckerby's just useless - injured also I believe.

-- Anonymous, November 04, 2000

Does anyone else remember Viduka playing at SJP for Croatia Zagreb in that Champions League qualifying three years ago? And we bought bloody Maric!!

-- Anonymous, November 04, 2000

Kewell should be training again in the next week or so. Saw on the telly today the Oz coach with updates on Oz players, Okon and Schwarzer for the smoggies are back in training already and near squad fitness.

Bridges does appear to be out for the season.....Kewell is knackered after sh@gging that dozy bird from Emmerdale

-- Anonymous, November 05, 2000

Kewell scares the crap out of me. Phenomenal player.

-- Anonymous, November 05, 2000

His girlfriend frighten the daylights out of me!

Leeds are building a formidable squad. When they're all fit they can field:

Martyn (or Robinson)
Kelly...Woodgate...Rabede...Harte
Bowyer...Baake...Dacourt...Kewell
Bridges (or Smith)... Viduka

Not too shabby? Why on earth would spend 'mucho luka' on the munchkin?

-- Anonymous, November 05, 2000

Someone's gotta clean all those muddy boots. ;-)

-- Anonymous, November 05, 2000

Apart from Bowyer, who else was involved in "that incident"? Isn't Harry Karry out for the rest of the season? And Bridges too? If so, or pretty close, then they'll do well to bring in another player. However, if I were Munchkin, I'd think long and hard about it. He's guaranteed a starting slot in Monkey's troop.

Not sure the same could be said about O'Dreary's place. If he has aspirations of an England place, he should leave the SoS. However, he'd have to choose his team/mates carefully. He'd progress at a team like Villa, Spurs (possibly) or dare I say it, Newcastle where he'd be pretty much first choice and in a more "England capable" side.

only thing that scares me about Kewell is his 'Wham' haircut....

"Club Tropicana, drinks are freeeeeeee"

-- Anonymous, November 05, 2000

It's probably all bollox.

Makem at work says that they were gutted on Saturday because he wasn't trying or running for anything and when they tried to lift him by singing his name, he got even worse of anything. They say sell him now as Reid will get pissed off and banish him to the reserves.

-- Anonymous, November 06, 2000

Someone on the RTG board is alluding to knowing a hell of a lot about the SMB's and Munchkin's contract etc. Interesting reading.

-- Anonymous, November 06, 2000

The munchkin's success was built entirely on wing play, in particular Summerbee knocking in crosses for Quinn to knock down. First Johnson and now Summerbee have been banished, and surprise, surprise the goals have dried up.
I only hope Heed never figures it out - it's real rocket science after all!

Stroy in The Ronnie tonight:

KEVIN PHILLIPS believes his dislike of the gambling culture made him an England outcast.
The Sunderland striker refused to take part in the card schools and horse-racing betting activities in which some of his fellow England squad members indulged during the reign of Kevin Keegan, when thousands of pounds changed hands at the turn of a card.
Phillips claims this may have cost him a chance of playing in Euro 2000 in the summer when England were desperate for goals.
Phillips was the Premiership's top scorer with 30 goals last season, winning the European Golden Boot in the process. But he did not receive so much as a single substitute appearance in Belgium and Holland as England dismally failed at the first hurdle.
He believes this was because he did not take part in any of the gambling about which, it is alleged, Keegan was so enthusiastic. Players who did not take part found there were few alternative activities to fill in their free time when on England duty and resorted to staying in their rooms watching television or walking around the hotel grounds.

Is this guy a prize fanny or what? Phillips is now hoping new man at the helm Sven-Goran Eriksson will introduce major changes. And the Hitchin hotshot is looking forward to a revitalised England career.
Phillips said: "If you were not a card player or a racing fan, going away with England could be a bit boring. "I'm not a card player and I do not like gambling on the races so I used to spend my free time just stuck in my room.
"But it's a new start for me and new start for England - hopefully it can only get better. You have got to look forward and hope it will be different. I'll never have a season like last time when I got 30 Premiership goals and the European Golden Boot, but I never got a chance at Euro 2000. I thought I should have been given a chance. I tried not to let it get me down and now I am looking forward to the future."

So what's he really worth ? And if he wasn't with the makkems would we still slag him off ?

I mean that Golden Boot thingy is Europe wide isn't it ? so whatever we think about him, he must have done something right.

If winning it actually means anything, it puts him in the same class as quite a few players we wouldn't get a sniff at.

Beginner's luck, maybe ?

I've been reading about all this on the RTG for a while now. His supply lines have effectively dried up which is why Monkey Heed is getting so much stick.

Looking at it with a non-anti-mackems hat on, he's got a great knack of putting the ball in the back of the goal, apart from missing the penalty on Saturday.

The mackems are complaining that they have no craft in midfield and therefore Muchkin is going looking for the ball and not getting into the positions like last year.

With a craftless midfield, unfortunately, they sound precisely like the type of team we have so much difficulty breaking down, which is worrying.

-- Anonymous, November 06, 2000

I'd play a craftless midfield ourself until about 80 mins then bring on Dyer, Solano and LuLu.

"If you were not a card player or a racing fan, going away with England could be a bit boring. "I'm not a card player and I do not like gambling on the races so I used to spend my free time just stuck in my room.

Sounds pretty typical of being away with a team to me. What does he expect? Sightseeing and shopping every day? I can't imagine EVERY player spent EVERY minute gambling and playing cards. Naturally if you isolate yourself in a sulk people are going to ignore you. Get a gameboy or rent a video and shut up. ;-)

-- Anonymous, November 06, 2000

Ciara....I think you got it wrong whe you wrote: Get a gameboy or rent a video and shut up. ;-)

It should have been Get a rentboy or a game or a video and shut up.

Oops sorry is that homophobic, will I have the PC POlice after me......oh dear.

FURIOUS England players have turned on one another as they launch a hunt for the mole they believe has betrayed their Euro 2000 gambling exploits. ........Kevin Phillips??????

-- Anonymous, November 07, 2000

Hey DB......my thoughts as well as soon as I saw the quote from Ince.

Which player would have the most to 'gain' by blowing the whistle....one that didn't get a game in Euro 2000, one who has already said that he is pi**ed off at not being given a chance, one who has already said that if he played for one of the bigger clubs he would be an automatic choice.....and finally one who has already confessed to not playing cards and who even gets the rules wrong in snap!......step forward one MUCHKIN

So the anti-social git spent all his spare time in his room eh? Prize w*nker, if ever I saw one.
