Is there anyway of getting a flight up?

Sorry, but having paid B#77 for a rail ticket, plus having to pay for a hotel, my budget doesn't stretch to flights, too. Besides which, they are all booked up. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The latest - PA News 11.30am Friday:

A broken rail was today discovered on the section of track used by trains diverting around the scene of the Hatfield derailment. The rail was spotted at Cuffley, Hertfordshire, by a West Anglia Great Northern company driver on the 7.06am London to Cambridge service. Railtrack was dealing with the rail and both WAGN and east coast main line services run by Great North Eastern Railways were further disrupted as single line operations were introduced. `We hope to have that section of the line open again and in the meantime we are using buses to get passengers to Potters Bar,'' said a GNER spokesman. Even before the broken rail incident, GNER was ``strongly advising'' passengers not to use its London-Scotland service today or over the weekend unless journeys were absolutely necessary. ``Direct London to Scotland services are not running north of York due to lineside flooding at Kelton and because Railtrack are relaying more than seven miles of track between Darlington and Durham,'' said a spokesman. He added that trains were running between London and York and between Newcastle and Edinburgh, but not between York and Newcastle. GNER said that it hoped to open the line through Hatfield on November 13 but warned that passengers in that area would still face speed restrictions.

Just received this:

GNER is not operating any services between York and Newcastle today (Friday) and over this weekend and, potentially, up to mid morning on Monday, 6 November. This may affect early services on Monday. This is due to severe trackside flooding north of York and major track replacement work being undertaken by Railtrack between Durham and Darlington.

PASSENGERS ARE STRONGLY ADVISED NOT TO TRAVEL THIS WEEKEND UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

Further track repairs are likely to take place the following weekend (commencing 11 November) on the southern part of the East Coast Main Line. Details will be published as soon as they are available from Railtrack.

We barely scrape into 3rd World classification these days.
Most garages around here were out of unleaded petrol this evening after another round of panic buying following Jack Straw's advice to keep your tank full.

PASSENGERS ARE STRONGLY ADVISED NOT TO TRAVEL THIS WEEKEND UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY

but as far as Dougal and the rest of the Londonmags is concerned it is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY

I don't believe that anyone at GNER, a predominantly Geordie run company, could ever consider that a trip to SJP for a match is NOT absolutely necessary.......stupid people!
