>> FRENCH club Lyon have taken former trainee Olivier Bernard to an industrial tribunal to dispute the legality of the left-sided player's move to Newcastle United this summer.

The 20-year-old defender joined The Magpies on a one-year deal in August, but Championnat side Lyon are now questioning whether it was legal for the player to refuse his first professional contract at the club in favoure of Bobby Robson's side.

The Premiership side had been delighted to secure Bernard's services, with head coach Mick Wadsworth saying at the time: "We have had Olivier here on trial before and we were very impressed by him.

"He's got a great left foot and this is something we are happy he is bringing with him to the club.

"He has played a lot of First Division football in France particularly the season before last and while we have signed him for his potential it's up to him how quickly he progresses."

However, the deal may now turn sour for the Tyneside club, depending on the result of the tribunal.

Can we get our money back if he leaves it behind??
