Airbus cleared from Sydney tarmac after emergency

A plane which skidded off the runway at Sydney International Airport has now been removed from the tarmac.

The pilot of the China Eastern Airlines airbus with more than 200 people on board lost control after landing because of a failure of the plane's steering system.

No-one was hurt in the accident which happened around midday.

The north-south runway was out of action for nine hours, delaying many international and domestic flights.

Some flights also had to be cancelled.

Investigators from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau have begun an inquiry into the accident.
