I note that our new namesakes, Newcastle United in OZgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread |
got stuffed 5-1 in what was presumably their inaugural game. Sounds about right.

third game....They were playing Auckland Soccer Kingz who aren't the best team in the league [based in NZ]. I watched it and i would've mentioned it only, well, there was the small matter of West Ham...
Our antipodean cousins play in a PSG-type kit of red and blue. The standard of the league is about D2/D3 as far as i can see.
We think think we've got problems - NUFC [Oz] finished 7th in the league last year, nearly went bust in the close season, lost a few players and managed to re-sign some about a week before their first game...looks like they'll struggle not to finish bottom this year.

>>>>stuffed 5-1 in what was presumably their inaugural game. Sounds about right.I think our inaugural game was against the mighty Elswick Leather Workers 2nd XI. We won 5-0. I remember it well.
