Rain spots on Focusing screen

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

During a session under heavy rain I got a couple of rain spots on my Hasselblad Accu-Mate focusing screen, which I use on my Linhof M679, After drying my equipment out, the stains are still there. They are located on the ground side of the glass, does anyone have an idea of a save removal of these spots? Best regards

If I were you, I would check with Hassey for a solution (no pun intended) just to be safe. Pat

It seems that no harm would be done by soaking the screen in dilute photoflo. I've cleaned a lot of phonograph records this way with great success.

Partly it depends on whether this is a grid screen or not. If it isn't, then you should be able to use warm water to clean it. However, using anything wet to clean the ground glass side of a grid screen will often cause the grid lines to disappear or become indistinct. As someone else suggested, I'd call Hasselblad before doing anything even if it's not a grid screen.
