AURORA ON HALLOWEEN?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Grassroots Information Coordination Center (GICC) : One Thread

On October 29th at 0155 UT, NOAA
satellites detected a powerful M4-class
solar flare erupting from the vicinity
of sunspot group 9209. If a coronal mass
ejection (CME) accompanied the eruption,
as seems likely based on solar radio
emissions, there could be geomagnetic
activity on Halloween night when the CME
strikes Earth's magnetosphere.

Coronagraph images from SOHO that might
reveal more about the character of the event
are still unavailable.
