I originally bought a Philips DVD player(I believe it was the 825 model) because it would play homemade video cd's. I eventually found out that although it would play theses disks that it would freeze up after a few minutes. Philips denied it was a problem for a long time until I found this site and discovered that it was a common problem with their player. They told me it would require a firmware upgrade to fix the problem and they had no plans for an upgrade. I ended up returning my Philips and exchanging it for a Pioneer. The Pioneer has pretty much handled everything I have tried to play on it.

I read somewhere that Phillips actually had alot to do with the creation of SVCD for the Asian market. And from what I know, all Phillips machines should play SVCD.. My gf recently got one of these & to our dismay was very picky as to what VCD's it would read, BUT! the SVCD's we've tried so far have came out crystal clear! -Nyktovus
