Mornin` all (or anyone)!

Galeforce winds, and torrential rain here in `sunny` Bournemouth today! Nice! Anybody else hate it when the clocks go back? I find it really depressing, like a door locking behind you.

Still, it could be worse - I`m just finishing a book called Moonfall, about the Moon being whacked by a huge meteorite! Worth a read if you like `disasters`. The book`s by Jack McDevitt.

The next one I have lined up is Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield, about the battle of Thermopylae. (Back on a war theme Clarky, though I guess the Spartans our a bit outside your specialist subject. I think this one would be more up Softie`s street?)(:o)

BTW - Duncan, do you know when they update the active/non active list on Greenspun? I`ve been posting like a demon on the Shih-Tzu Talkshop in order to get it onto the active list again. I`ve come to the conclusion that doggy people aren`t very adventurous when it comes to computers - if it doesn`t appear there on the screen infront of them, they seem terrified to go any deeper into a site. Maybe they think they won`t come out? (:o)

Au contraire ma cher Galaxy. I'll not have that said about Clarky. He went withRik and me to see the Spartans play NUFC resorves in the pre-season warm-up.

What's been keeping you busy this week? You've not been very active. Too much time on the Shih-Tzu Talkshop??

Hmm - just had my sister on the phone for an hour - guess that took care of a big chunk of this morning!

Screacher - Yelli volunteered our house to her company for some photos for their catalogue. So they have spent a few days here placing their products and photographing them. That`s why I haven`t had much spare time. The rest of the time I`ve been trying to catch up on everything that hasn`t been done in the meantime. This weekend I shall be mostly washing and ironing!!! Apart from listening to the webcast that is!(:o)

Oh well - day two of the weekend, and the forecast gets worse. Looking at Force 10 winds today - is that storm force? You nautical types should know. Also warnings out for severe flooding at Milford on Sea, Lymington and Keyhaven. Guess we better start battening down the hatches!!! I hope they are wrong - last time we had force 10s we lost a row of Scots Pines which also decimated the drive as their roots pulled out of the ground. Anyone know if Douglas Firs have deep roots - please say yes - we have one the size of the Titanic in our garden! (:o/

Galaxy,
I gather they experienced a very nasty tornado in Bognor Regis last night - wherever that is! Is it anywhere near you?
You certainly seem to be getting the worst of the weather right now. Hope you manage to avoid the worst of this latest series of low pressure systems.
My wife and I spent the last few days near Bath - few days half-term break for her. Unfortunately, the weather could have been kinder.
First time we've been to Bath - very nice spot. Did all the tourist things. Took a couple of hours to dash down to Stonehenge late one afternoon - another prime example of how pathetically we showcase World Heritage sites in this country while concurrently wasting vast sums on tasteless dross lke The Dome.
We also visited a fantastic, totally unspoilt village called Laycock, between Chippenham and Melksham. Utterly original - except as usual for the intrusive parked cars - and quite beautiful. My wife tells me some outside scenes of Pride & Prejudice were filmed there - why oh why haven't we preserved more of the very best of our architectural and cultural heritage in this way?
