Microsoft suffers hack attack Software blueprints believed stolen in computer break-in on tech giant

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Software giant Microsoft Corp. and the FBI are investigating an electronic attack by computer hackers that may have resulted in the theft of blueprints to its most valuable software, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

Microsoft (MSFT: Research, Estimates) officials have confirmed the cyber break-in, which was discovered Wednesday by company security officials who detected passwords being sent remotely to an e-mail address in St. Petersburg, Russia. The passwords could have been used to transfer software source code off Microsoft's Redmond, Wash. campus, the newspaper said.

A Microsoft spokesman acknowledged to the Journal, "we recently became aware of a hack to our corporate network," but added, "We are confident that the integrity of Microsoft source code remains secure."

Of course they are. Who would want to steal it?

"Damn! I put somebody else in charge of the company
for a few lousy months so I can play Nintendo with my kids,
and look what happens! If you want something done right,
you've got to do it yourself!"
