There is no body in the grave. It was exhumed secretly and moved to an unknown location. This was, and still is, a practice by the remaining family members of famous and important celebraties. In the late 1800s grave robbing was on the wain - but still an ongoing problem. "Wouldn't you like the skull of Poe sitting on your mantle?"

there is no one burried in there. It is merely a trick of the eyes, as another person said. The grave is in that same graveyard, only in the back of the graveyard. His whole family is buried there. And get this: Every year on his birthday, a man with a long cloak and hat sneaks to his grave and leaves three roses. They are supposed to represend Poe, his wife and his mother. He then touches the gravestone, and gets up and tips his hat a small bit to show respect, but as not to draw too much attention. This has been going on for about 50 years, and in that comunity, it is an event that everyone gathers around in the church yard to see. But no one really knows where Poe's grave is in the back, except the cloaked man who always slipps in then slipps out like a shadow. pretty creepy, eh?
