tape residue on glass

I need to tap into the "wealth of knowlege" again. Does anyone know how to remove old masking tape and the adhesive residue from glass? I tried alcohol which helped a bit. Any other ideas? Thanks

Hand lotion, lighter fluid, or a razor blade.

Teresa, Have you tried finger nail polish remover? How about a single edge razor blade?

There is this miracle stuff that I found called Goo Gone. It works with everything. I am sure there is some kind of homemade thing that works.....but it really works fantastic.

Adhesive remover wipes or liquid from a healthcare supplier. The wipes are expensive, but 8oz bottle of liquid is cheap and goes a long way.

I may be wrong, but it seems like I remember that veg. oil or olive oil work. Worth a shot. Tami in WI

Citra-Solv. Moisten a small piece of paper towel with it and place it over the adhesive spot (surface tension will hold it in place). Let sit 5 minutes, wash off with soap and water. Don't get it on anything plastic (eats it), or painted/finished surfaces (same).

Heat the old tape with the hair dryer and gently scrap with a single edge razor! Don't rush it~Let the hair dryer do the work and it will come off eaily and very clean. It works on price tags on plates, glass and the "paperwork on new windows! Good luck! I have used wallpaper remover. You can purchase it at Walmart, Kmart or any of the paint & wallpaper stores! Good luck!

Teresa, I sold tape for ten years and the masking tape probably has a rubber based adhesive. Any type of oil (I use wd-40) should remove it.

Bill is right, WD-40 works great, also removes residue from price stickers, bumper stickers and the like. Annie in SE OH.

WD-40 works great. As does Skin-So-Soft. Skin-So-Soft also takes off paint -even oil base. Works great for the little kids!

Just for your information, WD40, Skin-So-Soft, olive or veggie oil works great for removing bandaids too. My husband had something stiches on his chest and was more worried about having the bandaid removed. The veggie oil worked and didn't hurt or rip out any hair.

Acetone works, so does denatured alcohol, both available cheaply at the hardware store.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned vinegar. Removes all kinds of adhesives. Put it on full strength, let it sink in for a couple minutes to dissolve the glue.
