When I bought mine (over a year ago) the only one that would play homemade video cds on CD-R was the Pioneer 525. I took some of my disks to Best Buy and tried various players. At that time the Pioneer was the only one to play both CD-R and CD-RW. The sony's and a few other brands would only play video cd's that were recorded on CD-RW disks. I think Sony has come out with models that will play both types of disks since then. I have had no problem playing them on my Pioneer

check www.vcdhelper.com for a chart showing which models, not just brand names. Brand names are no longer enough, model numbers must be used as well. I would also bring a vcd (on cdr & cd-rw) you made (or what you plan to play on the player) with you to verify that it can/will play what you want.

I recently bought a sony dvd player that does play vcd's, but it will not play CD-R's (at least the kind with the greenish blue back, the only kind I have). It does, however, play cd-rw's, at least it played the verbatim cd-rw that I tried. The model numbers (actually there are 2 on the instruction manual, which tells about the vcd's so i'd assume both support them) are DVP-S360 and DVP-S365.

I went through all that mess a while back. I tried different colored disks and finally realized that it has nothing to do with it. Most DVD players do not play homemade video cd's on CD-R disk but quite a few will play them if you use a CD-RW disks

I have a SUPER GDS VCD-888E, it play DVD, SVCD, VCD and CD, it play home make SVCD, VCD, and CD, but CD-R only. I did try to burn it to CD-RW, it doesn't work. My friend has Pioneer it play both CD-R and CD-RW. If you plan to shopping for DVD that can play a copy CD don't forget to bring a copy with you to try it, that what I told my sister in France to try that way, finally she got one after she try many store and many model.
