Is my Cat a Maine Coon?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Maine Coon Cats : One Thread

I rescued my cat as a kitten from an Animal Control facility. He was about 5 weeks old (currently 1.5 yrs) He looks like a blond tabby with more blond than orange and white stripes. He has blond spots against his white belly and rings on his tail. I think he has beautiful features and mask. And even though I rescued him, I believe he comes from good stock. Tigger is not a long-haired cat, but his hair is not real short either, so he may be a mix of something. But I am starting to believe he may be part Maine Coon. From what I am reading on this, his muscular build, paws and weight seem to lean towards this conclusion. My I send you a picture via e-mail or is there any other way I can determine whether my baby is a maine coon or not.

Thanks very much for your help.

Your best bet is to compare him the the breed standard on this website AND to look at Maine Coons at a cat show near you.

This is a "me too!" We purchased a 2 mo. kitten at the Humane Society, supposedly a long-haired domestic tabby. We fell in love with his personality. I did notice his huge paws at the time. He is 6mo old now & weighs 9 lbs, thin! Has all the physical and character traits of an MC. We found out he has an embedded micro chip which led me to believe he was a showcat, discarded because of his kinked tail. We love him to death! I'm sold on MC's! He is so affectionate and eager to please. Planning to show him locally as a housepet. He likes to answer us in his sweet voice, sits up like a rabbit and grabs things between his furry front paws. He doesn't rub on the legs, he prefers a good nose-to-nose nuzzle. He sleeps on my head!
