Philosophical influences of Poe's work?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Work of Edgar Allan Poe : One Thread

I am currently doing a short paper over the philosophical influenches on literature that Poe had. Now, I know that Poe was a Romantic, so, in my paper, I am going to talk of 3 things.

1. Importance on emotions and upon the individual. 2. Stressed human potential 3. Key to inner world is imagination.

For this paper, I was suppose to pick two of Poe's works to analyze. I picked "Pit and the Pendulum", and "King Pest". So, how would I talk of the influence that they had? For example, in "Pit and the Pendulum", the man in captive was really controlled by his emotions, and that is what almost lead him to his death. How would I relate this to the philosophical influences on literature?

Thank You
