Landahl Park (PTOC local meet) report.

My report from PTOC's Landahl Park Meet (October 22, 2000)

Terrain B+: The area is about as good as it gets in this part of the country (though places like Leavenworth and Knob Noster are more pleasant). Landahl Park is a bit hillier than many local areas. There is a fairly dense trail network on much of the map.

Maps B+: One of the better maps around here. There are still a few inconsistencies -- overall, this is a quite good map. Dick L. (the mapper) is the best around at mapping the various levels of green in this part of the country. At last year's Landahl meet, the map was a bit difficult to read (color copy of a ink jet printing), but this year's map was much easier to read.

Courses C+ to B-: The courses were ok, but nothing special. It is difficult to set good courses when the woods are still so dense (there are still a lot of leaves on the trees). Still, more variety in leg length would have been nice. There weren't (at least on the red or green courses) any long or short legs. All of the legs were medium length.

Organization A: PTOC was up to their usual high standard. The turnout was a bit low (Worried about the rainy weather? Watching the football game on TV?).

Overall B+/A-: A fine event. Landahl is one of the best local areas and the map is good.
