MANCHESTER (Reuters)(DS) - French defender Laurent Charvet completed a 1.5 million pounds transfer from Newcastle United to fellow premier league side Manchester City on Tuesday. Laurent will cost City an initial one million pounds rising to the full fee dependent on appearances. Charvet, 25, turned down offers from both England and Italy to join City, who were promoted to the premier league last season. "I am delighted to be here because this is a huge club with lots of ambition and fanatical supporters," he said. "I had offers to join Ipswich and Charlton and teams from Italy, but I was impressed with the manager's attitude here and now I am just looking forward to a successful season. "I have played nine games for Newcastle this season and I am ready for action." City manager Joe Royle could not fail to hide his delight at securing the signing of a player he has chased for a long time. "We have had to be patient to sign Laurent," said Royle. "We first made an approach to Newcastle after he played against our reserve team two months ago. Since then, negotiations have been ongoing and I am delighted we stuck to our guns and finally got our number one target." Charvet spent just over two years with Newcastle after signing for 750,000 pounds from Chelsea in July 1998. He is likely to make his City debut against Arsenal this weekend.

Dunx, why does the "B#" key give us "B#" now?

See what I mean? I'll give anyone a B# who can sort this out!

It must be due to the "enhancement" they loaded over the weekend. Probably a code page thingy. What do the other characters look like?

Starting from the top left:
