Charvet

Even allowing for the swelling of Club coffers by B#2mil, am I alone in seeing this as an ill-timed sale.

Charvet has shown recently his ability to provide reasonable cover at centre-half/wing back/full back. With Barton carrying a knock and Griffen NEVER being fit are we not a tad short already? Anyway wasnt YBR on record as saying he was looking to strengthen the defence?

Am I missing something?

No Pete. I've been thinking exactly the same. Sadly, I think the financial state of the club, plus the possibility of a wholesale change in the xfer system is more behind this than a footballing decision..............unless YBR has a replacement lined up.

I've never rated him, sadly, and think B#2m is too good an amount to ignore!

I'm suprised he's signing....I figured he was gonna sit it out and wait for his free transfer.....I'm glad for the cash....

Apparently, he's being an awkward so-and-so in his discussions on a contract extension beyond this season.
So, the Club really has no choice whatsoever but to accept what is a very good offer of B#1.5-2.0 million for him, rather than see him walk on a FT at the end of the season.

he's not a key member of our team, he's a good, classy journeyman, to get B#2m for him, and pay off the Lua Lua money in total, puts the deal in perspective

Take the money and buy something useful for the club, like a referee or two!

I would sell him, You can count on your fingers the amount odf good games he's had for Newcastle. Last season he was out Injured for half of the season and out with personal problems for the other half.

He's probably on six or seven Grand a week and will not be after B#12-B#18 grand a week. I wouldn't pay that if I were the chairman. Rather get a Honduran in and pay him what we paid Charvet for the next four years.

Charvet was introduced to the NW press today. Afterwards he was interviewed on local TV. Usual banal comments. Good business for YBR - actually MacBeth's comments about paying off the Lua Lua fee does put it into perspective. I just worry about the lack of cover at present - Charvet could cover at both RB and CB.
