Yeah - I'm in Rochester Mn from 6 Nov. Likely arriving on 5th if I can get up to SJP on 4th. Looks like I will miss the Mackem and 'pool matches so would be interested in seeing what's on.

I'm hoping to spend some of the time in Tucson so might take an opportunity one w/e to see the big gash in the earth. But that's not certain. My internal flight is likely to be via the WIndy City.

HA HA!!!! Rochester in November... You'll be flying via the Twin Cities then! Rochester will be closed for fog/cold/snow/etc...
That'll teach you to be an AS/400 guru!

Screacher,

Just remember that Tuscon to Grand Canyon is a canny drive - probably 6-7 hrs - however, it's worth it.
You might be better flying from Tuscon to Flagstaff, from where it's only say an hours drive. Remember also that the GC area can be pretty cold in November because of the elevation.

If you get the chance there is a lovely drive SW from Flagstaff to Sedona through another, very pretty canyon - Oak Creek Canyon, I believe it's called.

Sedona itself is nice little town offering a variety of jeep tours into the surrounding red rock canyons (The Pink Jeep Tours are best, despite the connotations!).
If you are driving to GC from Tuscon then Sedona might be a good place to stop overnight on the way - there are several nice hotels/motels.

If you find you don't have time to go to GC there are some nice drives in the mountains to the east/NE of Tuscon. There is an 'interesting' drive called the Apache Trail, which is partly on dirt roads around mountain passes (!), and you can always visit Tombstone - which I found quite interesting, in a Wyatt Earp kind of way.
It's a great part of the world, although as with most US cities, Tuscon itself is nothing to get excited about - I'm sure you'll enjoy the trip.

Nah Geordie - Chicago direct from M'cr then a short hop over to Roch - been there, done that, many many times. Believe me, Jan/Feb is even worse! I'm loyal to American and it's North West or KLM that go to MPLS. However, if I decide to fly from N'cl, it would be KLM to Hamsterjam and then to MPLS.

Thanks for the info Clarky - far more enlightening than Geordie's drivel ;-) Until I get there, I don't know if we'll have any free time. May try to make a few days at the end of the trip. And yes, I know the GC area can be very cold in Nov/Dec. But comparatively tropical compared with Mn at that time of the year.

Screach,

Bring your wellies. Since I got to Austin it's done nothing but piss down!

Still at least it's warm rain. :o))

Screach you may want to check that the GC is even open for access to the public in November. I tried to visit the south rim once in may and it was closed until the first week of june. I could be and probably am wrong but I'd hate for you to spend all that time down there for nowt, specially since you could be buying me drinks and stuff. Only jokin' kidda, bevvies will do fine.

I thought Rochdale WAS Manchester! Surely a bus of some description would be a cheaper and more environmental alternative. I'm beginning to see the truth behind Screacher's geography apoplexy.

Screach,

Best regards to Dr. Soltis, offer him a real challenge - the england job. BTW, have you ever met Soltis?

Yes Pete, I've met Frank quite a few times. He's a really nice bloke - especially for a Professor. I agree about the England job. If he took over, we'd have a blue (sic) print to last us for the next 30+ years. What's more, we could change the makeup of the team many times, and still have the best solution available! Mind, I think he'd have to do a rethink on his "Single Level" theory ;-))

And we could have another meaning for "i-Series" - International
