Loni,

In March of 1842, Edgar Poe was working for the United States Saturday Post (Saturday Evening Post) at the time when Charles Dickens was on a tour of the United States. During Dickens' stay in Philadelphia, he and Poe arranged to meet and become aquatinted and had a pleasant discussion on literature. It seems Dickens was especially impressed with Poe's ability to accurately guess the ending to Dickens' story, "Barnaby Rudge" that was being printed a chapter at a time. Poe secured Dickens' promise to consider writing for the magazine and to assist Poe in publishing his works, "Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque" in England.

Regards,
