Help with verses relative to helping

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church : One Thread

I would like to ask anyone for their favorite verses about sharing and helping others. We are going to have a donation table for food to be distributed to the needy next month. I would like to print up different verses and decorate around the table.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Cynthia:

I think it is a good thing you are doing to help those in need and I herein offer a few passages of scripture that it is my hope will exhort, encourage and admonish your brethren to join with you in this great work for Christ our Lord.

BThe liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall himself also be watered.B (Proverbs 11:25).

But this I say, he which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.B (2 Cor. 9:6,8).

BGive to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn thou not away.B Matthew 5:42

BPure religion and undefiled before God and the father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.B 9James 1:27).

BAnd let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. AS we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.B (Gal. 6:9,10).

B What doeth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doeth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead being alone.B (James 2:14-16).

BAnd the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Neither was their any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, and laid them down at the apostles feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.B (Acts 4:32-35).

BLet this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." B(Phillipians 2:5-8).

BFor ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.B (2 Cor. 8:9).

BI have shown you all things, how that so laboring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, it is more blessed to give than to receive.B (Acts 20:35).

Cynthia, it is my sincere prayer that GodBs word will do that for which he sent it. And will encourage you and all of the brethren where you worship to be as our Lord Jesus Christ and give out of their comparative wealth to those who are poor that none will lack anything.

Your Brother in Christ,

Cynthia,

Here are some more, a couple concerning our help from the Lord and a few concerning our helping each other in times of need. Hope they are helpful!

Ps 121:1-2 I lift up my eyes to the hills-- where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Isa 41:13 For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

Acts 11:29-30 The disciples, each according to his ability, decided to provide help for the brothers living in Judea. This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.

2 Cor 9:1-2 There is no need for me to write to you about this service to the saints. For I know your eagerness to help, and I have been boasting about it to the Macedonians, telling them that since last year you in Achaia were ready to give; and your enthusiasm has stirred most of them to action.

1Thes 5:14 And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
