Majorca: POWER UP AT AIRPORT

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Grassroots Information Coordination Center (GICC) : One Thread

ONE of Europe's busiest airports was back to
normal yesterday after a six-hour black-out
caused chaos on Saturday.

Tens of thousands of holidaymakers, many of
them British, were delayed for up to 10 hours
at Palma Airport, on the Spanish isle of Majorca.

A power cut knocked out lights, public address
systems, metal detectors and the check-in desks.

Paris, Monday, October 23, 2000 Power Fails at Majorca's Airport International Traveler / Update

PALMA DE MAJORCA, Spain (AFP) - A power failure at the airport here caused chaos for almost 40,000 passengers hoping to fly into or out of the Spanish holiday island, airport officials said. Only the control tower at Son Sant Joan airport had electricity Saturday after a grid malfunction plunged the airport into darkness, shutting off baggage handling terminals, the public address system and elevators until repairs were made. Most flights were delayed for almost six hours.
