Frankly, Princess, the best technique would be to stick to his own literary principles and avoid modern techniques like the red death. Seriously, there are two or three essays written by Poe that may help you. The first is "The Philosophy of Composition". It is a textual schematic for his creation of "The Raven" and contains many of his literary beliefs. There is also "The Poetic Principle" and "The Rationale of Verse". They can be found at:
