Australian chopper damaged in emergency landing

An Australian Defence Services Blackhawk Helicopter was damaged during an emergency landing in East Timor last night.

The Defence Department says the pilot was forced to land in a New Zealand-patrolled sector in East Timor about midnight, after warning lights indicated there was a problem.

One of the Blackhawk's rotors hit a tree on landing and sustained some damage, but no injuries have been reported.

The helicopter, from the five-aviation regiment in Townsville, has been grounded and is being inspected to see whether it is still safe to fly.
