Square or non-square pixel setting to produce VCD?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hello,

If I want to make VCD, what kind of pixel setting must I use during capturing? Is it a square or non-square pixel? Suppose I captured it at square pixel setting, would be any big difference when seeing on TV screen? Does the picture look distorted/stretched? When I use non-square pixel, would the picture distort on PC monitor? Please help on what pixel setting must I use cause my capture card allow me to choose between the two. Thanks in advance.

Generally, the square pixel is best suited for playback to the aspect ratio of a PC Monitor. Rectangle Pixel is best for veiwing on a TV screen. Some encoders don't give you a choice. When you do have one, best to take into account which medium will be the primary mode of display.
