Quick Control Dial EOS3 vs. A2

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I've got another question if someone would oblige me. :) I recently purchased the EOS3. I used to own an A2 for which the thumb dial used to operate to control the aperature or shutter speed in AV or TV modes, depending on the CF which was set. I am finding myself extremely dissapointed that the EOS 3 does not allow this, since this was one of my favorite features on the A2...it basically allow adjustments with your thumb while your trigger finger remained on the shutter button. Can anyone convince me or tell me why the thumb dial features which the EOS offers is a worth while trade off. I know you can choose to under and over expose the film with the camera or through the flash through using the thumb dial, but is this is that critical a feature if your metering correctly in the first place?

I know you can control aperature or shutter speed in manual mode with the EOS3 but I would still be bouncing back and forth between the two dials. After playing around with the EOS3 for a while, and when I get my 550EX, I'm sure I'll figure out the advantage/disadvatages, but I have many dissapointments with what the EOS3 offers, although there are many things I am very happy with...not sure if I'll return it for something else...(probably not) Anyways, appreciate any inputs.

Thanks much, Derek

Use CF No. 5 to access that set up! 0=In Manual mode, set Av with Main Dial,1=Tv with Quick Control Dial 2=Same as 5-0 plus Av can be set without lens on camera body 3=Same as 5-1 plus Av can be set without lens on camera body Read your manual carefully, EOS 3 is not a camera that you can pick and go.
