5'8" is too small for a central defender. I know class players can get away with a smaller height but that is a bit much to expect. Okay if you're marking Tony Cottee.

After the transfer mistakes of the past few seasons I would have thought it was imperative that we look at the player more closely before spending cash on him. It seems to be the norm nowadays.

Trials, and detailed scouting, do seem to work. We recently gave a trial to a centre half from Trinidad - then watched him in a match where they were beaten 7-0.
