VCD showing Black&White 10/16

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I just bought a phillip DVD,VCD & CD player combo. Its connected to a pasonic t.v. On some of the VCD(mainly those produce in Asia,Karoke VCD) it shows black and white, but the ones produced in the US. its in color, but it would freeze frame every now and then. However, when I connect it to the EKIE video projector, and projector it to the wall screen, it works just fine (in color). What is wrong with it? is it the TV or the NTSC/PAL setting.. I've looked on the TV menu but didn't see any way to change it(NTSC/PAL).I can change it on the VCD player. HELP... I'm getting frustrated. Thanks.....

sounds like your tv wants NTSC (plays US vcds, not Asian, etc.). will your philips play PAL and output NTSC? if so, this is what you want your player set to...

Sounds like your TV, like maybe 99% of those sold in the USA, is single color system NTSC. So you have to go get a multisystem TV that will include PAL to display your PAL VCDs properly. This is just about the only thing you can do, short of buying a color system converter from the likes of Ten-Lab. For some reason, though, I have yet to see an LCD projector anywhere that wasn't multisystem.
