Color Scheme for 1926/1936 SAL Box Car

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

Hi,

We plan to repaint Seaboard Airline box car 9028 which was built in 1926 by Pressed Steel Car Company as a gon and then converted by SAL into a box car in 1936.

We are looking for paint colors along with either formulas or standardized color names for the background color and the SAL logo.

Does anyone have this information on file or know of an accessible source?

Thanks,

We appreciate all of the help, most of which came directly by e-mail. Looks like we're gonna be able to paint this car the right colors with the right lettering.

The last time I was in my hometown Rockmart GA, there was an old 40' SAL boxcar spotted on the Rockmart wye that looked like it hadn't been moved in a LONG time, being used for MOW storage. It was very rusty, but the SAL "heart" logo and "Route of the Orange Blossom Special" was still readable. That was last January--don't know if it's still there or not.
