Sekonic L508 meter problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

A buddy is visiting and as we were photographing pumpkins this morning his Sekonic L 508 zoom meter stopped working and now when he turns it on is shows E5 on the display. It does nothing else. We changed the battery & no luck and no difference. His manual is home in Kansas & he is going to Death Valley in the next few days. Any quick fix on this one? We already tried changing the battery & it didn't help.

Call up MAC at 914-347-3300 and ask the guys in the service dept. for help. Other than that, I have no idea.

I've just checked the manual, and the only mention made of "strange" screens is on page 5 , "if after replacing the battery, or during measurements, strange screens ( displays that have not been set ) appear on the LCD, or nothing happens, no matter what button is pushed, remove the battery and WAIT AT LEAST 10 SECONDS and then replace the battery. This allows the software to automatically reset, and is not a malfunction". Hope this is of some help, maybe wait a little longer than 10 seconds!! Regards Paul

I had this same problem. I bought the meter and after using it for 2 minutes, I got the 'E5'. I called Mamiya and they said that the chip inside the meter shuts down when it malifunctions to prevent it from getting more damaged. The only thing you can do is to either send it back to the dealer or send it to Mamiya for repair.

Problem Solved! I just went back to the Asahi Pentax spot meter.
