as good as any vcd solution to date? what does that means? Optibase quality? TMPGEnc quality? Panasonic quality? Broadway quality? Darrim Mpegator quality? please define this "to date" quality.

The above was a copy of a web form page. The date would have been 8/00 approx. I assume Gary works for the Video Guys. When I called the Video Guys they said they selling good. Terapin says MPEG 1 quality, I cannot define what that means for I have no personal experience with this unit. I was wondering if anyone has. I have run across a couple of other VCD & SVCD recorders on the market, but cannot find a sorce for pricing or buying. You have to admit it would worth looking into.

Gary is THE VIDEO GUY at The Electronic Mailbox. Their web address is :www.videoguys.com. They don't have the lowest prices (though they're not bad), but they pretty much know their stuff. They also offer free tech support on anything they sell - above and beyond the manufacturers tech support.I assume he meant the quality was as good as any SOFTWARE mpeg 1 encoder he's seen - In his opinion.
They do have a decent return policy, so you could feasably buy it from them, evaluate it, and return it if it stinks.

Goterapin VCD recorder;I think, this unit is very ugly design which you can't stock on top each other. I have seen the Amoisonic is better design but it in china I am in the process of order this unit right now. I wish the goterapin is a better so that I don't have to order the Amoisonic from China....

Where did you order Amoisonic and how much is it?

To the best of my knowledge, I've only found one place to purchase the Amoisonic CD video recorder and it's by INC Technologies. It sells for $675.00, at least, the last I checked it. Their website address is www.inc-tech.com/

Well I bought a terapin VDR and don't regret it, the product is as far as I know much better than panasonic encoder, you don't have to waste hours on your computers and can enjoy the VCD after watching a movie or recording a small film. The quality is greater than any other VCD recorder I tested. I hope they are going to launch a better model with SVCD and mini DVD capabilities. It would be great. The best stand alone solution seen yet. If you don(t like the product, you can still remove the plastic front panel, however I like the way it is and bought one grey for me and a blue for my company.
