MEGA TSUNAMI !!!

Anyone watch the programme last night? Quite an eye-opener! It seems that sometime in the next 100 year, a big chunk of the Canaries is going to fall into the sea and wipe out the the eastern seaboard of the USA.

Small niggle about the programme though. Why does it take some scientists in Switzerland, in warehouse sized laboratories to work this out? Any child can tell you that if you slide down the sloping side of the bath it is possible to displace most of the water in the bath out the tap end!(;o)

What are the odds on American special forces arriving in La Palma to advise the hell out of that bit of stone?

Ho ho! And as any fool knows, you then pick your feet up and push your way up and down the bath on your bum whilst whooping like a Sioux Warparty.

Cautionary note: knocking a tooth glass into the bath and breaking it whilst carrying out this passtime results in a lacerated arse and multiple stitches as my childhood friend Oliver discovered.

I saw a bit on BBC World and doesn't it depend whether it's a slow landlside or a quick one, as in a slow one would cause just a few cm raise in sea levels and a big one would be, well I wouldn't fancy being on a cruise ship anywhere.

Ouch!!! Softie! That would smart!!!(:o)

Similar sort of thing when we finally left Willington Quay for a `new` house on Marden Farm Estate in Whitley Bay. I guess I was about eight years old, and doing the sloshing up and down the bath thing. Great novelty value having a proper bath, we did actually have a tin bath in front of the fire before that. I was thoroughly enjoying myself, and kept it up for about half an hour, in fact until I had managed to get most of the water down the overflow. My fun was curtailed by thunderous feet on the stairs as my father burst into the bathroom and dragged me out of the bath! Bit of an overreaction you might think - however, he had happened to look up and notice that the light fitting in the kitchen had filled with water!!! The builders hadn`t connected the overflow correctly - oops!!!!(:o)

The good news is that it's very probable that it's also gonna take out London, I'll dig out the article I read it in and post it on here...

Who saw that programme about the disappearing coastline with houses crashing into the sea in East Yorkshire. Somebody actually managed to sell his house with about 20' of garden remaining, ingenius salesmen or a fool and her money?

Mile high tidal wave threatens Britain

Britain could be hit by a mile high tidal wave that could devastate coastal areas and river ports including London, according to experts.

Geologists are warning the British government that the country could be hit by the 600mph tidal wave - or mega-tsunami - which is also threatening the east coast of the US including New York, Miami and Boston.

It could be triggered by the next eruption of the highly-active Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Canary Island of La Palma, say the scientists.

Dr Simon Day, of the Benfield Greig Hazard Research Centre at University College London, says he believes a huge chunk of the island, weighing up to 500 billion tonnes, is now unstable and could slip off into the sea.

He believes the half-trillion-ton volcanic landslide could release the energy equivalent of around a million atomic bombs.

Computer models say by the time the wave crashes on to the shore in Britain it could be anything from 650 metres to three kilometres high, blitzing everything in its path.

Dr Day, who carried out the research with Professor Bill McGuire, told Ananova: "There is potential for catastrophic events from tsunamis.

"They are very low frequency, we don't have historical records, but they can have catastrophic consequences. The UK government has to worry about the effects."

The Geological Society has written to the Science Minister Lord Sainsbury warning him that the UK could be severely endangered by tsunamis

The research will feature on BBC2's Horizon programme on Thursday, October 12.

Well thanks for cheering me up gang!
What with the Palestinians lynching Israeli soldiers, continuing butchery in N/Ireland, terrorists attacking US & British targets in The Yemen, the S/E of England under water, a cr@p Summer followed by a non-existent Autumn, now having given way to Winter, stock market screens seemingly daubed red every day, KK's untimely resignation and the performance of our National football team, and NOW you telling me that the World as we know it is likely to disappear under a three mile high tidal wave any minute!!! I think I'll just go and slash my wrists.
Hang on though - were 4th in the PL and got a game at Boro on Monday night and a chance of another three points. Think I'll postpone my hari-kari until late Monday, or possibly early Tuesday - might as well get a good nights sleep first.

Tsun, Tsun, Mega Tsunami! Fascinating programme. I was enthralled.

So now The Geological Society has written to the Science Minister Lord Sainsbury warning him that the UK could be severely endangered by tsunamis> Excuse me, but what is Lord Sainsbury supposed to do? Build another (but slightly bigger!!) Thames Barrier from Cork to Brittany? Move everybody out of Lahndaan and all other points affected? Easier to build a mega barrier I'd have thought. Or just wait 'cos it's not very easy to combat "acts of God". Besides, we'd probably all get wiped out by a giant meteor hit three days after the the barrier did it's work.

Why divven't they just drain aal the waater oot o' the bliddy volcano?

Gav, Gav, get to London quick. This is your chance to join the mile high club!!

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2000

Cmon folks, look on the bright side....

If London is wiped out, we'll never have to play there again, therefore our non-winning streak is wiped out.

A bit extreme, yes, but hey it works for me! And even more reason to move to Newcastle! :-)))
