Nairobi (The Nation, October 10, 2000) - It
triggered a massive power surge, which
destroyed electric equipment worth millions
of shillings, especially in the Mount Kenya
This is the second time in as many months that
the country has been hit by a nationwide
Operations ground to a halt in hospitals,
offices, and even the law courts building in
Nairobi, where judgments were delayed as the
computer system went down.
A number of people were stuck in lifts and
factory workers were sent home as production
ground to a halt.
KPLC officials told the Nation that the outage,
first reported at 2pm, was caused by "tripping"
in the power distribution network.
