Due to the mythology of Armageddon in the Book of Revelations, a certain subset of fundametalist doomers are very sensitive to issues of peace in the Middle East in connection to prophecies of end times. Every time the Palestinians and Israelis square off for another bout of trading bullets and shells, these poor folks get excited about the Second Coming.

Jesus said, "the poor you shall always have with you." While he was at it, he should have added, the deranged, credulous and religiously fanatic. They never seem to be less numerous at one time than another.

While it is true that the Mideast has been at war for thousands of years, it is only very recently that the countries in that region have acquired weapons of mass destruction.
