OH: Newport struggles as chill moves in

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Grassroots Information Coordination Center (GICC) : One Thread

NEWPORT Residents suffered through cold
showers, a hardware store had a run on
electric heaters, and Newport teachers
used day two of the city's natural gas
failure as the basis for Friday's lessons.

. . .

The failure occurred about 3:30 a.m.
Thursday when a water main break near the
Newport Shopping Center flooded a gas
distribution system, knocking out natural
gas service to much of Newport.

I almost forgot that last winter natural gas pipeline explosions and disruptions were a big part of the y2k fears. Now could it be that, with the coming of cold weather, these will add to the shortage problems?
