So what's going on with you?

well, i was switched into another, smaller eating co-op where a lot of my friends eat, i am slowly but surely getting over my most recent infatuation (or at least i keep telling myself this!), and last night, i played lesbian spin-the-bottle, where i kissed the hottest lesbian on campus. twice. i am also working on my syllabus for a class on the real world that i would like to teach next semester. the real world being the tv show. also: i've been churning out papers like nobody else's business. ahh the woes of being a humanities major!

I started my co-op at school. I want to be a social worker or a teacher and I found a great position at an elementary school where I work with behaviour children. The thing is, they're all wonderful, they just come from broken homes and have no idea how to make friends or keep them. They have huge self esteem issues. They're all just gorgeous and I absolutely love my position there. It's great!

Other than that, my "across-the-country" boyfriend came home for the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. That was nice. A lot of sex and watching formula one racing. If that's not your idea of a great evening with your boyfriend you haven't seen for 3 months, then tell me what is? (OH THE SARCASM!) Katie, I think what you did was great. You can't live your life in denial. Do what you have to do to survive. It's about time you stuck with your guts! Good for you!!

Well, yesterday, I decided to hitch-hike to Vancouver, so I could take the ferry to go visit my boyfriend for Thanksgiving weekend., The second guy who picked me me asked "if i wanted to make a few extra bucks" because he'd like to "liven up his afternoon." Ugh. He wasn't younger than 35 and very obese. I declined, got out of his car, took the bus to the ferry station. Now I'm eating crackers while listening to House of Pain and reading Cosmo. My roommates are at home, trying to get money, because if we don't get that extra $400 in 3 hours, we have to be out by the 13th. I feel bad for deserting a sinking ship, but I had already scrounged up more than my portion of the rent, and I'm completely out of financial resources. I will probably half to start moving out when I get back.

After being informed by my significant other that I was not significant, in his own charming way, I went home and slept, and then I woke up, very very confused, as it was 4 (p.m.) and my roommate was up, typing. I, of course, thought that it was 4 a.m. Then I realised that I was wearing clothes, not pajamas, and I was even more confused. Eventually I figured out what was going on, and got up and took a shower. Then I wrote a long and probably-going-to-blindside-him sort of e-mail to my partner, and hey, now I'm going to clean and do homework. It's a great day.

I found my soulmate, and he lives in California (I live in *Maine*), so he's moving here in the spring. I've decided to go to plain old Uni of Maine next fall, my application's almost done. I'm taking the easiest classes possible at school, and as a result, I never have any homework to do. And I've been watching a lot of tv. Reaaaaaal exciting.

I'm home from university for the weekend. It's nice to be home, but it'll be equally nice to go back tomorrow. I love uni, but I love home as well. I think I'm lucky to be able to divide my time between two places I enjoy so much.

Enough of the sappiness. I'm glad everything's going well for you, Katie.

This lil southern born and bred chick now residing in the Windy City is COLD!!!!!! haha...there was a cold front or something that came through town and it's been in the 30's at night. um. yeah. it RARELY gets that cold in New Orleans. I'm in for quite a treat this winter I guess.

I was on ESPN... I think. I went to the big football game at my college (University of Georgia) tonight, and I sat in the fifth row, and I could swear the cameras got a couple shots of me.

Other than that, I'm recovering from midterms and counting down the days until fall break.

The fella I've been obsessing over lately finally emailed me (it'd been a couple of weeks since I sent him an email) and gave me his phone number. I can't for the life of me tell if he's interested in me or just thinks I'm slightly cool in a totally platonic sort of way, but I'm thrilled that I heard from him and now I'll just have to propose an event and get the guts to call him and all. I have most of my mid-terms done with (whew), am going to vegas next weekend and have far too much homework to do.

Glad to hear that you're happy

okay, granted this is off topic, but what the hell. You must have been REALLY unhappy if you like Newport News. I moved here ten months ago and...uh, it still hasn't grown on me. Maybe I'll see you around! hahaha

I think it sucks when people don't even think to let you live on your own. Do what you want to do.

All these people around me, tell me that I need to keep my good paying IBM job, when what I really want to do is sing. And dance. And write. And I've got the talent to do them. I want to do them. And if I don't.. I'll just flitter away.

I have got to comment. I was born in Newport News and raised in the county and I (inexplicably) take such offense when people move here and automatically decide they hate it. I've earned the right to hate it here by virtue of having been around it most of my life. But then these Johnny-come-latelies show up, pronouncing Norfolk wrong and deciding (YEGADS) that the area sucks. Well, duh. Of course on the surface it sucks. You have to be around for a good 23 years like I have to really appreciate its "suck" on every level. God Bless the County and the News.

removing my tongue from my cheek... (but really, it doesn't suck that much. we have a Chick-Fil-A.)

I am in total agreement with Angela. When you've been here your entire life, or most of it, then you have every right to comment on the suckiness of the place. Once we all experience the wonderous joys of Busch Gardens, Colonial Williamsburg, and Waterside, then we will all see the light that says, "Come visit the Snooze -- just minutes away from Pierce's Pit BBQ and the Smithfield meat factory."

Why does everyone live in a place they hate?

-dan

-- Anonymous, October 11, 2000

I don't. :)

BTW Dan, whenever I try to go to your page using IE 5, it opens up a Netscape window.. what's up with that? Your site is the only one it's ever done that on. *shrug*

No offence, but that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Why is it again that I can't dislike this place? If you've lived here for 23 years and think it sucks, why in the hell would a newbie who dislikes the city and has zero ties to it (such as family) like it? Maybe it's more like that thing where you can call your mom a bitch but no one else better call her one. In response to Dan--very good point...why the hell do we live places we hate? I moved here so my husband could be closer to his kids...that's a good enough reason for me to be here. It doesn't make me like it any better, but it's worth being here for.

Okay, but did you see that we have a Super K Mart?

-- Anonymous, October 12, 2000

(I feel so guilty - how come I haven't visited since at least 6 October? Probably through lack of "I've updated" messages. Must have joined mailing list with now-broken e-mail address. Must rejoin.)

Anyway. I started at uni over a month ago. I changed degree two weeks ago (for the second time - I'm now doing Maths). I've been to London twice in the last month. I have consumed approximately twenty times more alcohol than I have done in the rest of my life put together. (Oh dear, typical studentness.) I have survived for four and a half weeks without a working computer, spent B#62.68 trying to get my computer fixed and still it doesn't work. I have remembered 5/6 of the birthdays of my friends born in October. And I have been Involved with someone for four weeks. Which is v. fortunate, since my neighbour left his tap running, my room got flooded and it now stinks. But I've only stayed there for one of the last nine nights - wonder if I can get a rent refund?
