Wadesboro and Lilesville NC depots

Does anyone know if any depots are left standing in Wadesboro or Lilesville NC. I've been given conflicting information regarding their existence. I believe the SAL, ACL, and Winston Salem Southbound may have used the same building in Wadesboro. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

There were three depots in Wadesboro NC, all adjacent to each other. There was a SAL freight station, a SAL passenger station, and a joint ACL-WSSB station. In 1965 SAL freight #92 derailed into the side of the ACL-WSSB station, totaling it. For a time they worked out of a wood ACL caboose parked in the yard with telephone and telegraph lines strung to it. As the merger approached they moved into the colored waiting room of the SAL passenger station. Sometime after the merger it became a joint agency. The SAL freight station was leased out and later torn down. I understood that the former SAL passenger station was sold to a local pharmacist who may have moved it to Blewett Falls Lake.

The Wadesboro station was long gone when I checked by there a couple of years ago. Yes, the 3 RRs all used this station, at least in "modern" times. Don't know about Lilesville. I have photos of both from the 1970s. Larry Goolsby
