This session will discuss the impact of the move toward "e-government," development and administration of electronic records programs, web-supported applications and services, and other impacts of the rising reliance on digital information. The projected importance of XML as an enabling technology in the NII offers immense prospects for tapping the robust, large scale and flexible capabilities of data-based technologies for managing and accessing data stored in a variety of formats. New technologies also create opportunities for records creators, archives, and libraries to collaborate in offering services for digital data.
