To my knowledge, there were no literary awards that publicly recognized Edgar Allan Poe's genius during his lifetime. However, he was the selected author in at least two literary contests of the period. One was for "The Gold Bug" and another was for "Ms Found in a Bottle." There may have been others but I am not sure.

Today, Poe is recognized for his genius and his contributions to literature by the annual awards for best mystery with the "Edgar" award.
