The Germans - not all Bad?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Living in Germany I get the full whack of German jingoism - not much difference I can tell you. Johnny Foreigner has the same Team Germany nonsense as we do with Team England (though they do have a little more to crow over...). If they win they are the best German team since 1974, if they lose then the worst ever; how dare they wear the national colours with no pride; it was different in my day etc etc. Different country, same bollocks.

But they really do love beating us. They couldn't give a toss about Euro2000 if they can turn us over at 'the home of football'. The media here is doing a fine job of bringing everything to the boil for Saturday.

And do you know what pleases me most? Twice this week I have heard them go on about the wonderful absence of their 'thorn', Mr A Shearer esq. They really did fear him, which puts our 'correspondents' in the media firmly in their places. It's not until you see how our opponents respected and feared the man that we Geordies can point out the gross injustices he has suffered - at the pens of those whose only claim to fame is '12 doubles and still walked home in a straight line'. Justification, if we EVER needed it, of his place amongst the finest England have had.

But isn't it sad that we needed the Germans to finally prove this to some people?

Howay, Nick man. WE know it, Robson knows it and he knows it. That's all I need although it's nice to hear it :-)

I don't think there's any difference between many fans of national teams. 'Cept maybe most Germans have bad Rudi Voller hair and porno taches, wear tight bleached jeans, white Hi-Tec trainers and have a penchant to go invading the Low Countries.

I got a new Jorman neighbour this week, he's renting the pakistani's house next to me for a few months.

I am gonna stick the inglander flags out on friday , but to promote European harmony I'm going to invite his to see the game on Sky at the weekend.

My front room will have a dozen seats in front of the TV,and I intend to put Union jack Towels on all of the seats for my mates, except one of them for my guest (in the corner with a bad view). That'll teach him, ....

Did anyone see the Channel 5 program on English and Germans and their attitudes to each other last night?

Personally I think there are a lot more similarities between the two of us than most people would like to admit. A lot of Germans are obnoxious and overbearing, especially abroad. But we're hardly exempt from that ourselves are we?

Well the Anglo Saxons came from North Germany and Denmark so we're from the same stock. Mind we've since crossbred with the Norwegians, the French and the Italians.

Nick - just out of interest, just how bad is the situation out there regarding the draconian `dog laws` that are currently in force? There are some horrific stories in my dog papers. (:o|
