03/10/2000 20:36 - (SA) Mideast close to 'all-out war' Luxembourg - The situation in the Middle East between Israelis and Palestinians is close to "an all-out war", UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said here on Tuesday night.

"I had hopes we were very close in the peace process," he told reporters after meeting with European Commission President Romano Prodi.

"Instead of moving forward ... we now seem to have an almost all-out war in a highly populated area, and it is incumbent on the leaders to do whatever they can to rein in their forces," said Annan. - Sapa-AFP

Only if other Arab counties get involved 1 -- and force the US to act for Israel (upset Arabs and threaten oil supply. OR 2 -- or NOT act and get US Jews angry at present Administration.
