begging, basically (MBTV)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Gwen's Trailer Trash Forum : One Thread

Well, y'all, tonight is the season premiere of 7th Heaven, and I'm writing the MBTV recap this week. (I share the show with Cate, and she let me have the first episode. Wasn't that sweet?)

I want our season to start off on a good foot and all, so I'm cordially inviting y'all to go over to the 7th Heaven forum on MBTV and say hi. And if you watch the show, or you just like to read my babbling, or you have a secret crush on Cate, sign up for the 7th Heaven mailing list.

Hell, sign up for the Ally McBeal one, too, while you're at it. It doesn't start til the 23rd, but y'all should know that Pamie's left it for greener pastures and I'm its sole recapper now.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

And while you're over there, please stop by the Queer as Folk recaps and boards. It's my favourite show of all time -- having officially replaced EastEnders -- and I was lucky enough to get to recap it.

Sorry to hijack this thread, Gwen.

Since we are pimping our parts of MBTV, can I just mention that there are only two more episodes left of this season's Sex and the City? Because there are, and I will be recapping last night's episode and the last two.

Also, check out my recaplets of The Simpsons and That 70s Show once they start their new seasons!

Jackie and Gwen,

I just wanted yall to know that I've never watched either show (well, maybe one ep of 7th Heaven), and I stopped watching Ally McBeal after the 1st season, but I read your recaps anyway. I was all waiting for the new recaps of Queer as Folk (which we don't get here, I don't think). I had to go and look up websites so I could see what these people look like. But you guys do a great job.

Also, Jackie, did you hear they're going to do an American version of Queer as Folk?? I think I read somewhere that Sharon Gless was going to be in it. Should be pretty bad..

Oh, and same for Sex and the City. I don't have HBO, Saw one episode when I was staying in a hotel about a year ago, but still read the recaps. It's like getting extra cable.

Thanks, Gardanna! The American version of Queer as Folk is a hot topic over at the MBTV boards, so by all means stop by and check out the opinions, gossip and articles about it. The boards rule.

Thanks, Gardanna! I'm happy to know that there are other people besides my friends who read the recaps!

Hey y'all, the Felicity season premiere is on Wednesday night. My recap will go up on MBTV sometime late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. I have to do it really fast because I'm leaving the country on Thursday.

I'll also be recapping King of the Hill when it starts in November.

I left a "Hi Gwen" on the 7H forum at MBTV. I just can't get into that show, though.

I stumbled across the recaps of 7th Heaven this summer, peed myself laughing, and have been eagerly awaiting your take on the new season. Watching Monday night's episode, feel my bowels clench during the painfully insipid final scene where the irksome little girl climbs on her teacher's desk and stumbles through her cue cards, I was already looking forward to the re-cap. This show just wears a "Kick Me" sign on its proverbial backside. What were the writers thinking? "I need a drink", perhaps. That's what I was thinking.

Ahh, what fun. Keep up the good work.

New method of (not)watching crap TV: Out of like for Gwen, I taped 7th Heaven (god help me...no pun intended), watched the first 5 minutes, fastforwarded through the rest. This way I was able to see Lucy's stripper, I mean, 1st day of school outfit and the large eyebrows on that middle son. Having visuals helps. Actually watching the show, not so much.

I'm going to be depending a lot more on those Felicity recaps since they put it against West Wing. I did flip channels on commercial breaks, though, just in time to see "Leon's" hair... tee hee. Thanks again yall for doing this so well!

Thanks, y'all. We really appreciate your support. And please, if you want to write long letters to Wing Chun and Sars, telling them how much you love our recaps, please don't feel like you have to refrain from doing that. I know that we're all so modest and easily embarrassed, but I want y'all to do what you feel is right.

The other day some woman wrote and asked to be taken off the 7th Heaven mailing list because she thought it was just awful that Cate and I made fun of the only decent show on television. She said it didn't teach kids about sex and witchcraft like the other shows. I just wondered why she'd signed up for the list in the first place, though.

Yeah, I second that emotion about writing Wing and Sars if you like the recaps. I can't tell you how many times writers have received nasty emails telling them what horrible people they are for making fun of their favorite television shows, and we don't get a lot of positive feedback.

-- Anonymous, October 09, 2000

Don't let that woman get you down, Gwen. 7th Heaven may not cover sex and witchcraft, but it "teaches" kids how to be geeky dorks and 1950s-era reactionary humorless sexist morons, and thus deserves mockery. I'm always wary of people who want Telly-Vision to "teach" kids a real lesson about anything. Sheesh.

All I can say to that lady is "Oh, Brother!"

I wish y'all wrote for the shows I do watch.

I sent Wing Chun a happy, I like the recaps note. Just for y'all. :).
