Glitch fixed; new voter registration cards comingBy Bill Dries The Commercial Appeal
The Election Commission has been mailing out new voter registration cards to reassure thousands of new voters they will be able to cast their ballots Nov. 7.
Some of those who have recently registered have complained they've heard nothing since filling out their registration form.
Election Commission chairman O.C. Pleasant said Friday he traced the problem to a computer malfunction involving the printing of the cards in May and June.
Election commissioner David Lillard said in some cases the commission's records have shown a card was mailed but the voter says it didn't arrive.
"I'm getting far too many calls about this issue, which tells me, in my experience as a commissioner, there's an underlying problem somewhere," he said.
