continuing the "bar" motif, with a stretch

The niece of the groom at a wedding reception I worked in a bar (really). This couch became a popular portrait location as the evening wore on. Using my usual set up of 3x4 ft soft box and the Polaroid 600se

It's gorgeous. She is/seems amazingly comfortable. I hope you got to work more with her. I love the composition and the 'triangulation' of the couch. You really got her eyes in an objective but personal way, gave a little, but didn't get anything stolen...cool.

Are you sure you didn't do this out here in California? This looks exactly like the Voodoo Lounge in San Jose (although I think most cities have a Voodoo Lounge), where I used to shoot a lot until they changed opening time to much later.

Of course, I don't bring in all that lighting equipment, I'd break it after the third shot of tequila.

This is, of course, a great shot, the kind I could never pull off, but I suppose that's a good thing. I like the softness, I like the hot spot to the right, it plays off her somewhat conservative appearance, I like the funky feel of the environment.

I think it's an outstanding semi-formal portrait. Excellent lighting, but the pose is what makes it. She has her head projected forward and is giving a somewhat defiant look, yet at the same time, she has her arms crossed in a guarded posture--it's a great mix of feelings.

This woman was full of contradictions. Very young and yet very self assured and aggressively confident. Very willing to be photographed (I made about 6 photographs of her, by herself and many more with her father and uncle, both good friends of mine...t

p.s. I just got another 15 minute installation of fame here. Any of you in the Atlanta area, please stop on by, there will be lots of different work (it's a group showing)to see and a ton of people there. I have 3 images in the show.

Great shot- you're probably cheating on the "bar" rules with those lights- but I think it was Eugene Smith who said "available light it whatever light you have available..." (Of course he didn't say it to me- I read it somewhere..). I'm putting a bar shot of my own up top-
