Geese question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I posted a while back about a goose with a broken leg. Well, he's still getting around I'm happy to say. I recently bought a house and would like to set up a shelter for him for the winter. I was wondering how I should go about that. I will be putting up a fence (as soon as it comes in) for my dogs, and will put him in there at night so he won't be open to predators, but wanted something more for shelter. I also have a large garage...should I set something up in there?

Also, I am getting a second goose for company...right now he's down the road at a farm in with another male and female. I was thinking of taking the male and possibly getting a couple of females in the spring. Any thoughts on that?

One final question: His beak seems to be crooked, one side overlaps and the other side falls short. I don't know how he did it, but it doesn't seem to affect his eating at all, just looks funny. Anyone ever have that happen before?

Thanks much!

Just a small house, like a doghouse with some hay or straw should be fine.If your goose is a female, get a male or a female . Two males will fight.Several females will do fine with just one male. As long as the goose is eating alright I wouldn't worry about the beak.
